Escritor e ilustrador estadounidense. Estudió en la Universidad de Dartmouth, y luego cursó un doctorado en la Universidad de Oxford. En 1927 empezó a trabajar en forma independiente como caricaturista, ilustrador y escritor. Con su seudónimo, Geisel comenzó a producir libros infantiles de enorme popularidad, poblados de extravagantes criaturas ficticias y rebosantes de palabras absurdas. And to Think That I Saw It on Mulberry Street [Y pensar que lo vi en la calle Mulberry] (1937), su primer libro como Dr. Seuss, fue seguido por éxitos superlativos como Horton Hatches the Egg [Horton empolla el huevo] (1940), El gato en el sombrero (1957) ¡Cómo el Grinch robó la Navidad! (1957), Yertle the Turtle [La tortuga Yertle] (1958) y Huevos verdes con jamón (1960). Estos best sellers permanentes, y su libro póstumo ¡Oh, cuán lejos llegarás!
